The Lodge was purchase by the college in 1921 to serve as a dormitory for women in the Home Economics program.

Housemother Jane Kendrick enjoyed spending time with students in her care.
She and Elsie, Ethel and Margie ventured outside in winter...with no coats!
Mrs. Kendrick gathered her charges at the front door before heading to church.
Normal students were required to attend the church of their choice every Sunday.
One of Mrs. Kendrick’s first projects was creating a garden.
She was assisted by Normal students Marge and Lucy.
The garden featured a path bordered by a variety of flowering plants.
Mrs. Kendrick’s favorite flowers were hollyhocks.

Normal students enjoyed dressing up. Themed holiday parties were a tradition at the college.
Many students -- like Doris, Deborah and Frances -- also participated in college theater productions.

Graduation was the final celebration of the school year.
Margie, Flavilla, Helen and Ethel wore traditional white graduation dresses for their ceremony in 1928.

As enrollment increased the demand for student housing, men began residing at The Lodge the following year.
